Creative Process
Dilcia Cardoso’s Art is a result of hours, days and months of meditation with a paintbrush in hand. Each painting depicts an intimate conversation between creator and creation, and slowly the rendition of the ideas reflected upon, start to take shape on canvas. Some decisions are conscious, while others manifest unintentionally, but all comes together perfectly in the end.
Every painting begins with a sketch freely drawn, and a basic awareness of shapes and colors. Following comes the marking on the canvas, usually with soft pastels or oil sticks, and then a quick rendering with watery acrylics. Once the acrylic is fully dry, then comes the time to light up the candles, prepare the vinyl record of choice and begin the Journey.
Although the main elements are well defined and the consistent style of the Artist is preserved in the making of every single piece, with each painting
she lets her intuition guide her as much as possible.
The Gemstone Labradorite inspires her to create her waters, firstly because of the properties and aesthetic of the stone, which is so mesmerizing, unpredictable and mysterious, and secondly because it is the Artist’s favorite Gem and she carries it on her neck every time she is in the Studio.
Dilcia Cardoso’s Labradorite Waters are meant to be mysterious, deep, unpredictable, dark and unique in each painting, much like the Gem itself.
Strongly Inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt, and being a woman herself, her art has main focus on women and their representation.
